Find out how much Parliament cost us in 2012

Parliament is the supreme legislative authority in a state and the body that represents citizens and their interests at national level. This topic arose from the fact that citizens should know how much public money is spent on parliamentary activity, and what it is spent on. In 2012, Parliament cost MDL 91.5 million, almost double the 2005 figure, or more precisely MDL 26 per capita. One law adopted by Parliament cost citizens 10 bani, or MDL 389,484.7 per law, MDL 150 thousand more than in 2011. The evolution of its expenditure from 2005 to 2012 was also described. For comparison, we chose neighbouring countries, Romania, as well as countries recognised for the efficiency of their public institutions, in this case Finland and Lithuania. In choosing the comparison indicators, we tried to focus on comparable indicators (average wage in the economy, legislative activity, % of GDP).
