Needs Assessment of the Corporate Social Responsibility in Moldova

 

Project title: Needs Assessment of the Corporate Social Responsibility in Moldova;

Implementation period: September 14 – October 30, 2005;

Funded by: UNDP - Moldova;

Project goal: Evaluating the level of development of the Corporate Social Responsibility among the Moldovan companies with the view of assessing the possibilities for the private sector to engage in the UNDP development work;

Main activities:

  • Analyzed collaboration framework with private sector of the UNDP and other UN agencies, Government, bilateral agencies, World Bank, and NGOs: trends, impact achieved, areas of focus;
  • Developed survey tools to evaluate if the companies are practicing responsible business and surveying 30 companies;
  • Identified main training and learning needs of the companies in relation with the Corporate Social Responsibility;
  • Identified a set of appropriate options for UNDP in collaborating with the private sector and analysis of advantages/disadvantages of each option;

Project impact:

The Study developed as part of this project was the first ever study on CSR in Moldova. It found out that that development of CSR practices and CSR reporting in Moldova was at an early stage and was driven by a small number of medium to large foreign and domestic companies. The study identified key factors behind CSR of the Moldovan companies. It was used by the UNDP Moldova to understand how it can further promote the CSR among the Moldovan companies with a strategic aim of engaging with the private sector in promoting Moldova's development goals.
